Maths

We owe a lot to Islamic mathematicians. They invented, revised and discovered the following things for us:

1 - Algebra:  Islamic mathematicians helped develop Modern-Day Algebra based on the old Babylonian and Greek methods of doing math with variables.
2 - Symbols:  Islamic mathematicians also helped to create symbols for our math equations such as one being 1 and two being 2. The symbols are written this way because of the number of angles in each of the symbols. For example, 1 has one angle in it, and 2 has two angles in it. This keeps going until 9 and also includes the number 0.
3 - Irrational Numbers:  Islamic mathematicians helped the Greeks revise there Irrational Number strategy by removing the distinction between magnitude and number.

Al-Khawarizmi

Al- Khawarizmi was born in Khwarism in 780a.h. Al-Kharizmi wrote in decimal units for accounts numbers and encouraged all the people in Baghdad to do the same. Numbers of his books including
Al-Khwarizmi on the Numerals of the Indians" wrote about algebra and the use of symbols and helped spread his teachings throughout the Western world.

Al-Kahwarizmi developed algebra Modern Algebra, changing the older forms used by the Greeks and Egyptians. He also introduced the name into the language, writing about al-jabr. This word means 'restitution." In algebra you substitute symbols, such as x, y, or z, for numbers in order to solve certain types of problems.

Algebra is a process used when some information is known about a problem and other things are not. The letters are used for the unknown parts, and numbers for the known.
